Chrysocolla

Chrysocolla is a blue-green copper phyllosilicate. Noted for its teal color, the mineral has been used as a gemstone and replacement for turquiose.

Uses

Chrysocolla is primarily used as a collectible mineral or decorative stone. The mineral has also been used to produce jewelry pendants and facets. Due to its relatively similar appearance, Chrysocolla has been used as a substitute for the more rare Turquoise.

Notable Localities

Chrysocolla is found abundantly in many copper mines. Stalactites of Chrysocolla have been recovered from the Ray Mine of Arizona, while botryoidal Chrysocolla has been found in Chile. Recently, new specimens of psuedomorphic and banded chrysocolla have been recovered in association with Malachite and Azurite at localities in the D.R.C.
