Cuprite

Cuprite is a copper oxide mineral. Crystals of the mineral are noted for their characteristic dark red color caused by internal reflections.

Uses

In addition to being a collectible mineral, Cuprite is a minor copper ore.

Notable Localities

Cuprite has been found worldwide in copper deposits, such as the Katanga Region of Congo, Tsumeb Mine of Nambia, and Cornwall area of England.Arizona is home to many significant Cuprite localities, including the Bisbee workings as well as the Ray and New Cornelia Mines.
