Hubnerite
Hübnerite (Hubnerite) is a manganese-tungsten oxide mineral in the wolframite series. The mineral is distinct for its black-red color, high specific gravity, and cleavage. Like other minerals in the wolframite series, Hübnerite is comprised of imperfect tetrahedral and octahedral crystal units.
Uses
In addition to collectors' value, the industrial metal Tungsten is extracted from Hubnerite.
Notable Localities
The largest specimens of Hubnerite originate from several Peruvian localities. Red-tinted crystals occur in the Yaogangxian Mine of China.
