Vanadinite
Vanadinite is a phosphate mineral belonging to the apatite group. The mineral is a notable ore of vanadium, the element which causes the characteristically red color of Vanadinite.
Uses
In addition to being a highly-desirable collectible mineral, Vanadinite is a major source of the metal Vanadium.
Notable Localities
The finest crystals of Vanadinite originate from the Mibladen District mines of Morocco, where a recent find has produced specimens with large crystals (see photos above). Other notable Vanadinite localities include the Red Cloud, Rowley, and Mammoth-St. Anthony Mines in Arizona, as well as several Mexican localities in Chihuahua.
